Financial Analyst II

XenoPort, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing a portfolio of internally discovered product candidates that utilize the body's natural nutrient transport mechanisms to improve the therapeutic benefits of existing drugs. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Finance team.

Responsibilities include

  • assisting in annual budget and quarterly re-forecast process;

  • interfacing with departmental heads to collect base data and compare to developed business knowledge;

  • working with Finance colleagues to create presentations as required for the VP of Finance and CFO;

  • investigating actual to budget/forecast variances in the monthly, quarterly and annual department financial reports;

  • developing business knowledge to obtain in-depth explanations for variances;

  • preparing month end accruals and reports;

  • preparing monthly reconciliations for certain income statement and balance sheet accounts;

  • developing a deep understanding of the business, and in particular, of specific development compounds for which you will be allocated financial reporting responsibility, in order to critically analyze financial reports and budget submissions;

  • assisting with providing information for ongoing audits and reviews and 404 attestations; and

  • supporting Finance team in the completion of various ad hoc projects.

Requirements

Four-year university degree in accounting, finance, economics or related field required. Two to five years of relevant experience. Microsoft Excel skills are required. Experience working with Hyperion Planning and Essbase strongly preferred. Ability to multi-task while managing deadlines, perform well under pressure, work independently and as a part of a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail and time management skills. Strong work ethic and accountability for decisions and actions. Flexibility to adjust to new situations and changing priorities. Ability to think through and resolve simple/routine problems. Basic understanding of business issues.
